Palgrave Brown had to consider security requirements when designing truss rafters for the roof of a new 80-bed medium secure mental health hospital in Bristol.
The company’s Avonmouth branch designed and manufactured truss rafters for the Blackberry Hill hospital’s 8,000m2 roof.
Branch manager Ed Wilkes said: “The hospital had a particularly complex roof design due to the building layout, which featured a number of wards all joining a central corridor and therapy block.”
Palgrave Brown produced trusses with spans of up to 13m and a pitch of up to 22O for the Rydon Construction development. The design incorporated four plant rooms, all associated services, continuous clear maintenance walkways and access points.
