Houses being rebuilt in the tsunami-hit Indonesian province of Aceh are using illegal timber, a conservation group claims.
Fauna and Flora International believes illegal logging in Aceh has rocketed since the Boxing day tragedy which killed more than 128,000 people in the province and left more than 500,000 homeless.
It estimates about 1,000ha of forests in Aceh Jaya district have already been destroyed, while further illegal logging could lead to problems such as landslides and floods.
The group says rich countries such as the US and Australia have promised to supply timber to help reconstruction but nothing has yet arrived.
Recent peace talks in Aceh after years of separatist conflict could also lead to problems. According to some observers, fighting in the region had effectively protected the forests. But the peace process has tempted the illegal loggers to move into the area again.
