The use of timber frame for a housing project in rural South Croydon provided a quicker build option than masonry for developer Milford Homes.

Guildford Timber Frame designed, manufactured and erected timber frame systems for seven properties in the Croham Heights development.

Milford Homes managing director Chris Dawes said: “As well as achieving higher standards, using timber frame also allowed us to complete the project quicker than would have been possible using masonry, providing a much faster return on our investment.”

External walls of the homes consist of an 89mm stud frame with insulating breather foil, 9mm OSB sheathing and an internal plasterboard finish. Further insulation was provided with 90mm thick mineral wool.

Guildford Timber Frame also made the roof systems, some incorporating living areas in the roof space. Floor cassettes are based on 220mm deep timber joists.
