Proposals to update forestry legislation to enable the Forestry Commission to continue to deliver multiple benefits to society have been laid before Parliament.

The proposed changes to statutory powers would enable the Forestry Commission to: enter into joint ventures with the private sector, and others, to enable the development of recreation facilities; participate in projects with others for forestry purposes; enable the commercial exploitation of the results of its research; amend procedures relating to the enforcement of restocking notices.

A draft order, laid earlier this year, received widespread support during a 12-week public consultation period and no amendments have been made to it.

Copies of the draft order and the explanatory statement are available at www.forestry.gov.uk/rroforestryact.
