A sponsorship package put together by North East Timber Trade Association member Richard Gore of Price and Pierce helped Hymers College, Hull compete in the finals of the European Schools Business Projects in Oslo.
Mr Gore, a former pupil at the school, was approached by Hymers College which knew of his company’s Scandinavian timber connections.
He explained: “The school contacted me for help four or five months ago when it was going to Copenhagen for the first round of the competition which the students won. It specifically wanted help from companies in Scandinavia with contacts in Hull.
“It got back in touch about three weeks ago saying could we help again as the pupils were going to the finals of the European championship.
“It was going to cost around £1,000 to transport their equipment from Hull to Oslo, but we got in touch with shipping line and timber carrier Ahlmark which said it would sort it out. The school was given about two hours notice to get its gear to the docks where it was loaded and shipped to Oslo.
Mr Gore said: “Meanwhile Siljan sawmill, which has been involved since the area finals in Copenhagen, gave a sizeable sum of money to help with costs.”
