Former chipboard manufacturer and multi-millionaire George Reynolds has been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to cheating HM Revenue and Customs out of £650,000 in unpaid tax.

Mr Reynolds pleaded guilty with his cousin, Richard Tennick, to the charge. They denied further charges including evading liability by deception and money laundering.

Mr Reynolds, whose Direct Worktops company had a multi-million pound annual turnover and who invested around £27m in Darlington football club, is now said to be almost penniless.
