The latest contender in the modified wood species market is to benefit from its producer’s parent company’s decision to float on the AIM to raise €27m.
Environmental science and technology company Accsys Technologies said the AIM listing will enable it to open its new full-scale 30,000m3 capacity plant in the Netherlands in 2006.
Titan Wood is using a patented wood acetylation process to convert softwoods and non-durable hardwoods into Accoya wood which the company claims can replace tropical hardwoods and artificial material alternatives in external applications.
It follows hardened timber products Indurite and Kura wood into the UK market and Accoya maintains that as well as being suitable for traditional use such as windows and cladding it can be considered for applications normally the preserve of concrete and steel.
Titan Wood chief executive Edward Pratt said: “With this new listing we will be able to use this technology to make a positive contribution to the future sustainability of the timber industry by bringing Accoya to market and developing worldwide licensing agreements.”
