UK Woodchain is calling on companies and trade associations that have developed training products to support a round table discussion to help guide future developments.

Mike Marchant of UK Woodchain said: “The intention of the first meeting of the panel is to identify best practice and threshold standards in the design of training products for our sector, producing a voluntary code that will be a template for future products in terms of content and style.

“While there are external codes to be taken into account, the best starting point is what companies in the sector have produced that is known to be effective.”

He suggested that anyone attending the meeting, to be held on December 8 at Wadkin Group’s headquarters in Bardon, Leicestershire, should bring samples of their training products to show other participants.

A second meeting covering best practices and threshold standards in the delivery of training products is due to take place in February.

Mr Marchant said government agencies have been asked for financial support for the sector-wide exercise which, he added, will steer towards a national strategy and quality assurance measures linking supply and demand in work-based learning, qualifications and performance development.

“We are waiting for a response,” he said, “but feel that the issues and opportunities are too important to be delayed any longer.”
