Having just read the latest copy of TTJ (November 26/December 3) I was particularly interested in the news item “Tjipta finds UK buyers for its FSC plywood”.
I am pleased for Mr Romaine’s recent success in taking significant orders from UK buyers for his FSC mill but I feel that it is only fair to point out to the trade that, contrary to your article, they are not the only Asian company able to offer FSC-certified plywood. This statement is certainly misleading as I believe there are at least two FSC-certified mills in Malaysia alone. We are the agents for a mill that has been supplying UK buyers for over two years – Cymao Plywood Sdn Bhd of Sabah, Malaysia was the first mill in this part of the world to achieve full FSC certification and it has been constantly developing its product and markets. This year we have increased its UK FSC sales with regular shipments of over 1,500m3 per vessel and its production capability has recently increased by a further 2,000m3 per month.
Cymao will shortly receive full CE certification on all of its plywood production and has recently been complimented by BM Trada in Kuala Lumpur on being the first and, I understand only, mill to have achieved CE 2+ structural levels on all panel sizes, all thicknesses, and in both its standard plywood and FSC plywood.
The UK trade will therefore be able to continue to benefit from the continued efforts that this mill has made to be able to supply reliably manufactured and fully certified plywood products.
