UPM has received its biggest ever single plywood order – a US$100m deal with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

The Finnish timber producer will supply 120,000m3 of plywood during 2006-08 for use in the insulation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers in Asia.

Airi Hietala, UPM marketing manager responsible for shipbuilding customers, said: “This contract illustrates the degree to which UPM’s special plywoods are appreciated internationally in industrial applications.”

UPM, which started deliveries to LNG carrier projects in 1969, says it is the world’s leading plywood supplier to the company.
