Martin Gale, UPM vice-president for international forestry, has been awarded a CBE for his services to forestry in the New Years Honours List.
Mr Gale has worked in the forestry industry for more than 30 years. Prior to his current role, he was managing director of UPM’s UK operations, overseeing the conversion of the UPM Shotton Mill in North Wales to entirely recycled fibre use.
He is now also a director of Forestal Oriental SA in Brazil, chairman of Tilhill Forestry Ltd, a non executive Forestry Commissioner, a non executive director of BSW Timber plc and a director of ConFor.
Mr Gale has a keen interest in sustainable development and has served on numerous related advisory bodies, including Defra’s Sustainable Task Force. He is a patron of the Centre for Alternative Technology and was appointed an honorary fellow of the University of Wales for his contribution to the forest industry in this field.
