Timber frame manufacturer Benfield ATT is aiming to attract skilled construction workers through a new scheme designed to cut red tape.
Benfield’s Specialists Skill Security scheme is designed to tempt self-employed sub-contractors by offering to take on their paperwork, administration, planning and downtime worries.
The scheme’s launch follows recent predictions by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) of a shift back to direct employment by many workers.
Benfield chief executive Michael Benfield said: “Increasing red tape is sounding the death knell for many sub-contractors. Soon they’ll recognise the way in which the revised CIS tax scheme will bite them. They will also begin to appreciate that there are no ways round the HM Inspectors test to determine employment status.”
Caldicot-based Benfield will take on responsibility for CITB training levies, provide top-up training on newer site skills and upgrade health and safety competences, site security and other knowledge now required by legislation.
