Production in the Finnish forest products sector declined by 10% during 2005, according to a new report.
The Finnish Forest Industries Federation said the sector’s slide in ouput was mainly due to the labour dispute in the country’s paper industry.
Finnish sawn wood production also dipped by 10% or 1.3 million m3 to 12.2 million m3, compared to 2004. About 900,000m3 of the decline was caused by a knock-on effect from the labour dispute.
Fourth-quarter sawn wood output fell by about 5% but was still higher than the preceding three quarters.
Plywood production in 2005 totalled 1.3 million m3, about 3% down on 2004.
