Kingspan TEK’s structural insulated panels (SIPs) system has been selected for a second project as part of the deputy prime minister’s Design for Manufacture competition.
Around 150 homes will be built by the SIXTYK Consortium, which comprises housebuilder Crest Nicholson plc, Kingspan TEK and architects Sheppard Robson, on a former hospital site in Coxheath, Kent.
The project is the ninth out of 10 development sites to be made available through the competition, which challenges housebuilders to build high standard homes for a £60,0000 build cost.
Kingspan TEK’s SIPs will be used for all homes on the site, which will include 45 £60,000 homes. A mix of two- and three-bed homes will be provided, with a third classified as affordable housing.
The SIXTYK Consortium’s other competition success was another former hospital site – Renny Lodge in Newport Pagnell.
Crest Nicholson said its approach to the competition had brought about an internal shift in the way it managed the design and build process for each of its development sites.
