PEFC UK national secretary William Walker said he was delighted that the scheme had reached such a key milestone in the UK market.
The latest company to join the PEFC programme is M-Real UK Ltd which has two paper mills – in New Thames and Sittingbourne.
Mr Walker said: “PEFC is the world’s largest interNational Forest certification scheme, endorsing national forest certification schemes in 21 countries on four continents.
“With 187 million ha under certification, the PEFC endorsement scheme has greatly increased availability of certified timber available to companies such as M-real who are committed to the responsible sourcing of raw materials.”
