The plant is the first Wärtsilä BioPower facility to be installed in Germany. It will provide electricity and district heating for the business and service park of Baden Airpark.

Wärtsilä said the project was a good example of how investors were gaining interest in biofuel plants because of electricity prices.

The Baden Baden plant, owned by BioTherm Baden GmbH & Co KG, has an electrical power output of 5.2Mwe and thermal output of 3.5MWth for heating. It will be fed by wood residues from the local forestry industry.
