The “Jabhouse”, manufactured by Reigate-based Innovare Systems Ltd is the second timber-based house to be erected at the Innovation Park, which showcases modern methods of construction.
Minister for housing and planning Yvette Cooper MP met Innovare’s director Paul Ensch at BRE’s Watford site recently to hear about the Jabhouse concept.
Mr Ensch told the minister that the Jabhouse provided a technical and structural solution for cost-effective housebuilding, as well as high levels of environmental efficiency. He also said Innovare offered a single point of responsibility and accountability for the construction industry.
The Jabhouse at the Innovation Park, expected to be completed in early June, will include vision panels in the floors and walls to give visitors a greater understanding of how the building system works.
SIPs panels will be 130mm thick, featuring expanded PolyStyrene insulation, supplied by Vencel Resil, bonded between two 12mm layers of conditioned OSB. Internally, the walls will consist of a plasterboard lining and an additional 50mm layer of insulation and battens forming a service zone.
The first floor will be an exhibition area for supply chain partners working with Innovare, which is part of contractor the Geoffrey Osborne Group. Thermally broken timber windows will be supplied by Swedish Building Products.
