One group consisted of SCA Timber customers and the other of graduates of the Buildbase Timber Champions courses. Those gaining the highest marks during the year received a special SCA trophy.

Rob Simpson, managing director of SCA Timber which sponsors the trips, said he sees the visits as a vital consolidation of knowledge.

He added: “The quality of learning and development in training courses needs to be backed up with a practical understanding of the supply chain if the professionalism of those working in our sector is to be improved.

“In the past, such opportunities were offered as part of in-house training schemes in big firms. It’s up to the business leaders of today to ensure that potential business leaders of tomorrow receive both knowledge and encouragement to stay with our industry in the long term.”
