Plum Creek Timber Company has submitted a land use plan aimed at striking a balance between conservation and development on its land between Greenville and Jackman.

The plan, submitted to the Land Use Regulation Commission, places 97% of the land into a “working forest” and conservation, while also providing improved public access and further opportunities for business development, tourism and recreation.

It is designed to secure 328,000 acres of working forest for long-term timber production and also permanently protect 180 miles of shoreland.

Plum Creek believes the plan will create housing opportunities for people in the area by increasing jobs in timber production, tourism, recreation businesses and support services.

The company owns about 8 million acres of timberlands.
