Howarth Timber Engineering Ltd and Marlows Timber Engineering, both part of the Howarth Timber Group, chose to promote their business on the basis of the chain of custody certification across their whole product range.

A recurring theme on the stand was a chain, the links of which were made from different materials. “All the materials within the chain are sourced from companies which have chain of custody,” said Marlows general manager Roger Smith.

“There is a lack of information about chain of custody, so we’ve been able to help,” he said. “And there has been a lot of interest shown by builders through to specifiers.

“With the sustainability agenda you couldn’t hope for a better material than timber and this is a very good time to be in the timber industry,” Mr Smith continued. “Timber has a major role to play in innovation and we need to seize the opportunity and keep our foot on the pedal.

The high number of struc-tural timber exhibitors was a further indication of the potential for the industry, said Mr Smith.

“There are many foreign companies exhibiting here who obviously perceive the UK as an important market. We need to rise to the challenge,” he said.
