The eight-page document outlines the materials normally specified for typical timber frame building.

TRADA said that most timber frame buildings in the UK are constructed from factory-assembled, open-framed, sheathed panels, although some manufacturers produce closed panels where the insulation, services, vapour control layer, internal linings – and perhaps the joinery and cladding – are applied in the factory.

However, it said, the specifier does not need to be concerned with the specialist methods used in making the panels – only with the quality of the final product and the materials used.

And, said TRADA, it is reasonable for a prospective or nominated manufacturer to provide a sample panel showing the workmanship and materials to be expected in the contract.

The information sheet covers everything from structural framing, truss rafters and sheathing to insulation, wall ties, cladding and ceiling linings. References to relevant British and international standards are also included.
