Heikki Malinen has been appointed executive vice-president, strategy and member of UPM‘s executive team from January 1 next year.
He takes over from Heikki Sara, who will retire on January 31, 2006.
Mr Malinen currently works as president, UPM-Kymmene North America.
He has two decades of professional experience in the paper industry and management consulting profession, having worked for global forest industry consultancy Jaakko Pöyry and management consultant McKinsey & Company Inc.
After working for UPM early in his career in his native Finland, Mr Malinen rejoined the company’s North American operations in 2002 as president of sales.
