“New woods, new lives, new landscapes”, to be held at The Lowry in Manchester on October 17-18, will describe how woodland creation is falling year on year, despite greater awareness of the benefits woodland can provide. It will also set out how targets can be set to achieve greater woodland cover.

Speakers will include Professor Chris Baines and Hans Kampf of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.

The programme will also look at woodland creation from the perspective of health, biodiversity, urban regeneration, planning, public access and culture.

The Oscar-winning The Man Who Planted Trees will be screened, along with a video by children involved in a tree-planting project in Hull, the UK’s least wooded city.
