The country’s Timber Producers Federation said 252 fires had destroyed 10,000ha of plantations during 2005, reducing Zimbabwe’s forest resources by 10%.
The Federation, which is talking to the government about new measures to protect forests, said the damage would cause log shortages for years to come.
It accused farmers of illegally harvesting trees and starting fires to clear plantations for farming activities.
