The Woodland Strategy Advisory Panel, comprising landowners and forestry specialists, heard how Forestry Commision Wales is pointing the way to a sustainable future through trees and timber in the £4m Robinwood project.

Robinwood Wales manager Kim Burnham told committee members that Welsh foresters’ skills and knowledge were being shared with European project partners, including Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland and Slovakia.

“Sharing information, best practice and new ideas across six member states is already helping ensure a dynamic future for an industry which can provide so many diverse opportunities for job and wealth creation,” she said.

Wales’ involvement in Robinwood includes compiling information on how forests in three of the countries are managed and what methods can be developed across all six regions, including Wales.
