The new operation is headed by Simon Tucker, who has a degree in Forest Products from Brunel and spent a decade in the agency, importing and merchanting sector, working for EAC and subsequently DLH, James Latham and CP Timber.

“Working in the industry I was frequently asked by people if I knew somone I could recommend for a particular job,” said Mr Tucker. “At the same time, while there are other multi-faceted recruitment agencies working in and around the timber sector, as far as we know there are no companies with specific knowledge of the industry and we felt there was an opportunity for a business to focus on it.”

He added that the reduction in timber industry training and apprenticeships had made it “increasingly difficult to find personnel”.

He said London-based Kent Magill would not only work with people already in the industry, but also look to attract talent from other sectors.

“The re’s no doubt there are people out there with transferrable skills. The job market is competitive, but if the industry can promote itself as offering a good living and rewarding career, it can attract the right recruits.”

Mr Tucker said that Kent Magill has already placed a number of people in jobs in the timber industry and been asked to find candidates for positions.
