The North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Forest Development Corporation (FDC) has asked the Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) for Rs500m to import timber from South-east Asian countries for reconstruction.
The quake-affected areas in the NWFP could require 96 million ft3 of timber for the reconstruction of houses and public sector buildings, and the aim of imports is to relieve pressure on Pakistan’s own forest resources.
