The entry-level unit is designed to make the Powermat technology, including PowerLock, available to smaller joinery companies and craftsmen at a lower price.
The Powermat 400, which received its world premier at the INTEC exhibition in Leipzig earlier this year, features a new type of PowerLock tool concept with a larger tool diameter and made out of composite materials for optimal cutting at the lower spindle speed of 6,000rpm.
Also taking pride of place on the Weinig stand was a Dimter Opticut S90 saw linked to Weinig’s Millvision software technology, with a video showing how the technology was being used in an I-joist production line. So far two UK companies are using the technology.
Chris Osborne, Weinig UK managing director, described W6 as a “very positive show”, despite a lower attendance than 2004.
He said 14 machines were sold, including several Powermat 400 orders.
