Permanent secretary Sirkka Hautojärvi said problems with emissions and waste water had been overcome with water purification and sulphur extraction techniques.
The forestry industry, she said, had also quickly adopted new forest management practices.
“Finnish forest industry’s environmental know-how in technology is exportable,” she said, predicting that environmental issues would continue to put pressure on the sector.
She also encouraged better sharing of information, such as the amount of wood used in the European building industry.
