Manufactured from sustainable timber and designed for energy efficiency, WAVE provides the development for South Yorskhire Housing Association (SYHA) in Shireliffe with low heating costs for residents.
Eighteen units are being built in the second phase of the £1.6m project, a partnership between Avebury, SYHA, Sheffield City Council and the Housing Corporation.
“The timber frame superstructure has gone from the slab to the roof in three weeks,” said Gavin Kelly, regional construction manager for Avebury.
“By using off-site manufacture, the WAVE panels are manufactured in advance, which allows us to reduce the time to construct the dwellings on site by up to a third.”
Peter Muir, chief executive officer at Avebury, added: “The WAVE system means residents will benefit from low running costs, further improving the affordability of these homes.”
The Housing Corporation has backed the scheme, on a former council-owned site, with an allocation of £800,000 Social Housing Grant. It is due for completion in March 2007.
