Ross Finnie, Scotland’s minister for the environment and rural development, local MP Danny Alexander and Liberal Democrat candidate Craig Harrow also backed BSW’s role in the Wood for Gold campaign, which wants to see wood from the Highlands used in construction projects for the London Olympics.

BSW has already invested more than £1.3m at the Boat of Garten sawmill in the past two years. The company is now developing plans for further phased investment, including site infrastructure, primary processing and added value secondary processing and treatment.

Group operations manager Scott Shiells said investment would mean the sawmill would continue to play a key role in the business’s UK expansion.

“Future investment will be part of our programme of continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation, site and operational efficiency,” said Mr Shiells, “and help develop new market opportunities and customer service.”
