Quality Timber, an ambitious young company founded by former North Yorkshire Timber executive Jason Hawkey, has invested £150,000 in moving to a site in Pallion and buying stock, forklifts and racking. Previously, the company was a home-based sales operation using other timber suppliers.

The site comprises a 15,000ft2 warehouse, office and 15,000ft2 external storage.

Quality Timber’s team has been expanded to include Tony Ferris, formerly a director at Arnold Laver, Alan Diamond, who used to work for Montague L Meyer and Raymond Dixon, another former Lavers executive.

Mr Ferris said sales had increased strongly since opening the new site last October and the business was on course to hit £2m by the autumn.

“I have been amazed at the amount of business that we’ve brought in,” said Mr Ferris. “The idea is we want to turn the company into a £2m-£3m business employing 10-12 people.”

The company’s product offering includes softwoods, hardwoods, sheet materials and fencing. Customers include door manufacturers, joinery companies and fencing contractors.
