The project, an initiative of international conservation charity Fauna & Flora International and South African-based Resource Africa, hailed the system, which comprises a handheld computer using GPS technology.

CI Earth is currently being used in a joint project combining Helveta, the Tropical Forest Trust, Forest Peoples Programme, the London School of Economics and Congolaise Industrielle des Bois to map areas in Congo-Brazzaville and Cameroon.

Helveta jointly won the Environmental Achievement Award at the TTJ Awards last September.
