Some 22,500 tonnes of timber from Cumbria and Northumberland is being sent by the Forestry Commission to the £60m Wilton 10 wood-burning power station, operated by SembCorp Utilities.
Trees are being felled in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, and Kershope and Spadeadam Forests in Cumbria.
Wilton 10, which will start up in the spring, will need 300,00 tonnes of chipped wood every year.
