Demonstrations of CNC window and door production technology formed an important part of the open day, held at SCM‘s Rimini factory. The event saw 72 customers visit from the UK and Ireland.

SCM said it had researched the European door and window markets and had discovered a “definite decline” in PVCu products, with wood on a “dramatic increase” in the new build and replacement sectors.

“This has resulted in the volume of interest and orders for the associated range of SCM machines, particularly CNC ones, increasing dramatically, with, in some cases, machines being sold to relatively small joinery companies,” it said.

Gianni Franchini, SCM Group‘s solid wood product manager, said the previous open house event had attracted 200 visitors. He said the company would continue to develop machines for the fast-growing door and windows market.

Machines on show included five Record CNC machining centres, Windor window CNC machines and the Superset XL PRL and Class NT.

SCM UK has reported a number of orders following the show, including a Routech Chronos 5-axis CNC router, two Prisma machines, two 3-axis units and three Windors 20s.
