The Hampton companies will be offering construction and decking timbers from Iwokrama Sustainable Timber Incorporated, a joint venture set up by Tigerwood Guyana Incorporated and Iwokrama Timber Inc (a subsidiary of the Iwokrama International Centre).

Tigerwood managing director Tim Foster said the venture represented one of the few ways in which UK companies could get hold of timber harvested sustainably from Guyana.

“I think a lot of people will be looking at it in terms of a new certfied source,” he said.

Tigerwood expects to begin receiving shipments, likely to include species such as greenheart, within the next two to three months.

The venture will harvest a limited amount of timber each year from the Guyanese rainforests in accordance with the requirements of the Forest Stewardship Council.
