The Coalville-based company, a member of the Trussed Rafter Association, undertook the design, fabrication and installation of some 1,200 duo-pitch trusses for a series of three single-storey buildings at the Oakham Residential Care Village in Rutland.

Truss rafters were chosen for the Oakham site as they were able to overcome problems with access. Harlow Timber Systems was able to design many of the trusses with separate top hat sections to enable easier handling and installation.

While trusses for the largest structures measured up to 14m in length and provided space for building services above ceiling level, a series of room in the roof trusses was also manufactured for the village’s day centre, creating an office above the main area.

In addition, Douglas fir external trusses were provided for the porches, on a supply-only basis for a second contractor involved with erecting a dozen bungalows on the development site.
