After two years of planning and two unsuccessful planning applications, architects studiomgm’s plans comprise a three-storey block of 12 affordable eco-flats in a conservation area.

Work is expected to begin on the scheme in August this year. It will feature timber frame construction, on-site production of energy from solar panels, and timber cladding to reduce maintenance.

The development will also have a planted green screen around it to help provide a cooler climate around the building, as well as offering privacy to the occupants.

Richard Scales, partner at studiomgm, said: “The construction of the timber frame with timber cladding – a finish already approved for the nearby Cattle Market development – will have exceptional levels of insulation to minimise heating demands.

“We plan to generate much of the heating/hot water needs on site using solar collector and heat recovery systems.”
