The Woodland Area, Planting and Restocking provisional statistics show that the total area of woodland in the UK increased by 7,000ha from March 2006 to 2.75 million ha, 12% of Great Britain’s surface area, and that 44% of this is certified.

Moreover, the figures have revealed that 10,000ha of new woodland was created from broadleaved species during 2006-07 and 17,000ha was replanted, mostly with conifers.
