Organisers said they were disappointed with the level of support from the industry although there some exhibitors had a successful show. Roger Southee, chairman of the British Wood Flooring Association, said the market was “quiet”, but added that the show had been too small and missed its audience.

“There is an abundance of shows. I think they have to identify the market. Shows which encourage the attention of architects, developers, specifiers and builders are good,” Mr Southee said.

Event director Paul Sweeney said: “Our launch year in 2005 filled the ground level, which was expanded to two floors in 2006, a fine achievement, attracting 1,268 visitors over two days. More importantly, 76% were unique to London and did not visit the National Floor Show.

“Understandably we are disappointed with the level of support from the industry for 2007.”
