Staged at Newbury Racecourse, the show took place during a week when the shortage of fencing panels was widely reported in the national press, with UK Forest Products Association executive director David Sulman and TTJ editor Mike Jeffree both interviewed by the BBC.

Many of the firms attending the show acknowledged the shortage, due to storms earlier this year, mild weather and changes in the world timber market, but they were not unduly concerned by the impact it would have on their business.

Many of the 40-plus exhibitors, said the two-day event was good for making contacts and securing new business.

The UK Fencing Championships also took place, with Coventry-based J Hubbard & Sons winning the title.

Event organisers plan to draw more exhibitors and visitors to the 2009 show by moving it to a quieter time of the year and securing a venue suitable for displaying fencing.
