The emergency funding has been made available to the help the area “fight against this threat to our forests”, according to Alberta sustainable development resource minister Ted Morton.
The C$50m investment doubles the amount spent on fighting pine beetles in 2006 as the number of trees attacked by the beetles increased from 20,000 to three million between 2005 and 2006.
