Home, the parent company of Live Smart @ Home, won the award as part of the Northern Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Built-in Quality Awards, having been nominated by North Tyneside Council and will now go on to represent the north-east at the national awards in October.

“We are all thrilled and delighted at winning this esteemed award,” said David Morton, a senior architect at Home Architect Services.

Mr Morton added that it was “gratifying” for Home, Home Architectural Services and Live Smart @ Home to have been recognised for the Boklok development by their peers.

  • The number of BoKlok apartments being built in the north-east could quadruple after Live Smart @ Home announced that it has applied to construct a further 84 properties using the system. Live Smart @ Home already has permission to build 117 houses and 36 flats but has put in an application for the additional number at the St James Village development in Gateshead. BoKlok homes originate from Scandinavia and use a closed panel system developed by Pace Timber Systems before it was taken over by Kingspan Off-site Ltd. Construction at the Gateshead site is due to begin this month.
