The environmental lobby group are planning to construct a skate ramp from FSC-certified birch wood, which will be donated by DIY retailer B&Q, at the festival site and give revellers the chance to catch some air while supporting sustainable forest management.
A Greenpeace spokesman told TTJ that, while there had been a skate ramp at most of the recent Glastonbury festivals, this years will be “bigger and better than normal” and will be “a good way to start talking about our timber and forest campaigns”.
The skate ramp is to make up part of the Greenpeace field, which will also feature carbon neutral showers heated by solar and biomass energy and an organic restaurant.
This will form part of an overall campaign to get 100,000 people to sign up to the I Count campaign, which has been set up to draw attention to climate change and the initiatives that can help cut global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, according to Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis.
