Hygienilac, manufactured by Kettering-based Premier Finishes, is a wood lacquer that Leaderflush Shapland claims is able to kill most kinds of bacteria, including C diff, MRSA, salmonella and E coli, as well as having a long lifespan due to its low water solubility.
“It seems obvious that doors can harbour bacteria, but they are not always on the radar of facilities managers and specifiers when they’re thinking about refurbishment,” said the company. “[Hygienilac] will provide significant benefits for the healthcare sector.”
It has been tested to British Standard 6250 for severe usage according to Leaderflush Shapland, and has received approval for use from the Food and Drug Administration, the Health and Safety Executive and the Environmental Protection Agency.
