The store in Raisio, near Turku, will feature a Finnforest Kerto LVL roof structure incorporating 900m3 of Kerto S beams, with 16m spans, and 900m3 of Kerto Q panels, which Pead Seicon Oy, the main contractor on the job, says is lightweight, watertight and easy to construct.
And Metsäliitto, which is supplying the timber used in the Finnforest products, said that the contract with IKEA “opens up excellent opportunities to market large roof panels for store chains”.
Finnforest has already supplied timber building solutions to three eco stores in the UK, with glulam beams and Kerto LVL used at the Tesco stores in Wick and Shrewsbury and the Asda eco outlet near Oldham.
According to Metsäliitto, the environmental credentials of timber roofs, coupled with the 60-minute fire resistance of Kerto LVL, the lightweight and quick construction of the end product and the cost-efficiency of the materials, will see more store chains looking at including large roof panels in their buildings.
