Egger UK Ltd has moved to improve the environmental credentials of its Weyroc flooring products by removing a green dye from its manufacturing process.
The green dye was used as a means to differentiate Egger’s Weyroc products from standard P4 grade boards but, since the company no longer produces P4 boards, the decision was taken to remove the colouration treatment.
“While the coloured paste was not classified as dangerous, its removal from the production process eliminates any environmental risk from disposal, burning or contamination of water courses,” said Egger marketing manager Nick McClughin.
“This makes the boards more environmentally sound, which fits in with the company’s policy to adhere to the strict ecological regulations laid down by the wood processing industry.”
Egger added that it has consulted the National House Building Council on the change and has received assurances that it will not cause issues for construction firms as inspectors test thoroughly for P5 grade moisture compliance.
