The US wood preservative chemicals market is set to be worth US$425m by 2010 as the market matures, according to new research by Global Industry Analysts.

A decline in the use of chromated copper arsenate, due to environmental and health concerns, and a rise in the popularity of ammoniacal copper quaternary, copper naphthenate and borates will drive this, Global Industry Analysts has said.

New technologies and innovations in the sector will also have an impact on the wood preservatives market according to the research, as will local and national markets, the health of the construction sector and environmental policies, legislation and climate change.

Global Industry Analysts has also noted that the growth in engineered timber products, including OSB and parallel strand lumber, will affect the “mature market” for wood preservatives.
