Mosborough Village Hall has become one of the first public buildings in the UK to install the Jabroof SlimFix insulated structural pitched-roof system, manufacturer Vencel Resil has said.

Architectural Design Studios specified 262m2 of SlimFix panels for the build near Sheffield in order to create “a modern, thermally efficient building that could be erected quickly” according to Vencel Resil, with the timber-based panel system featuring expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation inside chipboard pre-cut to length.

The roof of Mosborough Village Hall has been built using the Jabroof SlimFix panel system

“Because the panels are structural we only needed to fit a purlin along the centre of the roof, which meant that we were ready for the panels almost immeadiately,” said Freddie Ward from Thomas Frederic, the main contractor that installed the panels.

“Normally on a traditional timber roof, it would take much longer to erect the trusses before we could even begin the roof covering.”

Jabroof SlimFix panels also feature pre-fitted counter battens and gutter laths, further speeding up the installation and finishing process for the roof according to Vencel Resil.

Mosborogh Village Hall’s roof achieved a U-value of 0.16, meeting Building Regulations, with Vencel Resil adding that SlimFix panels are British Board of Agrément approved and the EPS has been given a Class E flame retardant rating.
