A multi-storey timber frame apartment block under construction in the centre of Hatfield has been destroyed by fire.
The cause of the fire on August 11 is still unclear although witnesses reported hearing several explosions. An investigation by Hertfordshire Fire Service is ongoing.
It is the third major fire at a timber frame develompent in just over a year.
Contractor Mansell is building 84 homes on the site for the Metropolitan Housing Partnership together with St Mowden.
UK Timber Frame Association chairman Stewart Dalgarno insisted that timber frame poses no greater risk than any other form of construction.
“Fire can hit any construction site and two-thirds of this type of blaze during construction are arson,” he said.
